Default Shooting the Elk

I was wanting to know if a .380 with a 150 grain was enough power to take an elk down all that well? I know it does a number to deer but for an Elk will it have to be a well placed shot to put it down? Just never shot them with a lower .cal and wanted to know if I should bluk it up to a 180gr. to do the job.
Thanks

Okay I resighted in with a different version of 150 gr .308 round. Going with hot-cor. Should have a stronger bullet to get through that thick hide and bone.
